12 pm – 2 pm Deliver your entries for the Village Show

Children’s games and craft tables are open for creating entries for the show and decorating ducks for the Duck Race

12 pm – 2 pm Barbeque and Bar Open
3 pm – 3:30 pm Duck Race (Don’t be late. Blink and you’ll miss it)
3 pm – 3:30 pm Village Show Judging (Hall Closed)
4 pm Prizegiving and Cream Teas

 

 

The Village Hall will be open from 12 noon on the day. Entries must be delivered by 2 pm and must be accompanied by a card or piece of paper (approx 6cm x 4cm ) with your name on one side and the class number on the reverse. Please bring your cards ready written as this saves much time on the day.

The right is reserved to cancel or amalgamate any class considered to be insufficiently supported. The main section of the Village Hall will be closed for judging between 3 pm and 3.30 pm and will reopen for viewing from 3.30 pm. Prize giving will be at 4 pm. Exhibits may be removed immediately after the prize giving Maximum support from everyone in the village will ensure a successful day. Your entry may not be perfect but it could sƟll be the best there, so please come and support your village.

 

Classes

Section A – Flowers

Rules: All flowers and plants must be homegrown. 

  1. 3 Tea Roses (Large Flowered Bush Roses)
  2. A Bowl of Roses for all round effect (any variety including miniature)
  3. A vase of cut or mixed flowers
  4. A small house plant

 

Section B – Fruit and Veg

Rules: Exhibits should be clean and as fresh as possible. Stalks should not be removed. All produce must be homegrown and of the same variety. 

5. 6 pods of Runner Beans
6. 5 Potatoes
7. 3 of any other Vegetable, 1 variety
8. 5 Tomatoes
9. 5 Berries – Blackberries, Raspberries, Gooseberries, Strawberries (etc)
10. Any 3 other fruits of the same variety

 

Section C – Photography

11. A photo of Bourne End
12. ‘A Portrait’, Animal or Human

 

Section D – Homemade Arts and Crafts

13. 2D Piece of Art – painting, drawing, charcoal
14. 3D Piece of Art – wood, papier mache, pottery
15. A knitted or crocheted item
16. A stitched piece of work (tapestry or embroidery)

 

Section E – Homemade Culinary Delights

17. Jar of Chutney or Pickle
18. Jar of Homemade Jam
19. 3 Cup Cakes
20. A homemade alcoholic drink
21. A Cake

 

Section F – Children’s Section (up to 15 years)

22. Photograph an animal/pet
23. Art or craft piece of your choice
24. Cress Head (decorated egg with a face and cress for hair)
25. A plate of 3 decorated biscuits (plain biscuits may be bought)
26. Face drawn on a disposable plate (can be completed at the hall on the day)
27. Best decorated duck (to be completed on the day)
28. A coloured drawing (to be completed on the day)

 

The Rules

Unless otherwise stated, three points will be awarded to the winner in each class, two points to second place and one to third. You may put more than one entry into each class. Excluding children’s classes, points will be totalled for the overall championship. 

If two entries or fewer are received in any class, points will be awarded at the judge’s discretion. The name of the ‘Overall Champion’ will be engraved on the Shield of Honour. A trophy will be awarded to the ‘Overall Champion’ in the children’s classes. 

The Douglas Dean Rose Bowl: The bowl will be awarded to the best exhibit in Classes 1-4 and must be retained by the winner until 7 days before the next annual show. 

Eligibility of Competitor: Any person resident in the village, visiting friends or relations are eligible to enter. 

Acceptance of entries: The Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry. In the event of such refusal, the committee is not required to give any reason. 

Containers: The exhibitor shall provide all bowls, vases etc.

Making scones and serving teas
Helping behind the bar and barbeque
Setting up and clearing up
Wading around in the Bulbourne collecting ducks
Supplying and/or helping out with a plant and produce stall
